Bremerhaven/Hamburg (Germany). As one of the largest private science sponsors in Germany, the German Deutscher Stifterverband awards research-based companies with the "Innovative through Research" seal of approval every two years. This is the second time that AKQUINET has been recognized for its research. The company is currently involved in a project for the development of a digital terminal twin and in another for the resource-saving transport of frozen goods.
akquinet port consulting, a subsidiary of akquinet AG, not only offers consulting services and solutions for port and terminal logistics, but also conducts research in this field. The company has now been awarded the "Innovation through Research" seal of approval again, following the award in 2020. "The research projects in which we are involved make a significant contribution to avoiding harmful emissions, conserving resources and thus proceeding more efficiently and sustainably via digitally optimally supported logistics. We are very pleased about the seal of approval and take it as an incentive to continue to actively engage in research and especially to establish practical relevance here," explains Prof. Dr. Holger Schütt, Managing Director of akquinet port consulting.
Digital terminal twin and simulation model for better planning
Among other things, AKQUINET is involved in the collaborative project TwinSim, which will run until September 2024. It is pursuing the development of a digital twin for the visualization and simulation-based optimization of processes at the EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg. Handling, transport, storage and maintenance processes will be considered. Problems and optimization potentials are to become visible through the visualization of real-time data of the terminal equipment and networking by means of IoT technologies. The prototypical digital twin of the terminal will also be complemented by the development of a simulation model as a better basis for planning decisions. The joint project is being led by EUROGATE GmbH & Co. KGaA, KG is in charge of the project. Further partners are EUROGATE Technical Services, akquinet port consulting GmbH and the Institute for Information Systems (IWI) of the University of Hamburg as scientific partner.

Cool frozen transports
In the recently completed H2Cool Prelude project, AKQUINET and other project participants researched how hydrogen and fuel cell technology can be used in truck refrigerated transports. The aim of the project is to develop concepts for the avoidance of fossil fuels and the reduction or avoidance of harmful emissions: Greenhouse gases, air pollutants, noise. AKQUINET was responsible for the economic and theoretical cost-benefit analysis of a hydrogen-powered refrigerated truck. The project was supported by the funding program Applied Environmental Research (AUF) of the Bremen Senator for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The research project was successfully completed in May 2022.
